'Coney Island' Book Peter Granser (out of stock)
Peter Granser (*1971) earned public and critical acclaim virtually overnight with his first two volumes of photographs, Sun City (2003) and Alzheimer (2005). In addition to such sensitive themes as old age and illness, the Stuttgart artist also examines the phenomena associated with the culture of leisure and entertainment. In his Coney Island series (2000–2005), he captures the marvelously morbid charm of this aging amusement park with all of its exaggerations and absurdities. With his calm, contemplative gaze, Granser brings the extraordinary aspects of ostensibly prosaic reality to light. Remarkable explosions of color, unexpected geometric configurations, and the occasional unforeseen occurrence that appears to have been waiting just around the corner are characteristic features of his art—a mixture of enchanting smiles and voids, of dry humor and melancholy.
